Update on Operations

In preparation of the freezing temperatures expected in our area, the City of Houston is opening the George R. Brown Convention Center as a shelter and warming center for individuals living unsheltered starting Sunday afternoon and operating through Wednesday.

The Beacon is collaborating in this effort and informing Day Center clients about this resource.  Several Day Center staff are redeploying to the GRB to support and cold weather supplies will be shared as needed.

Volunteer shifts are cancelled for Sunday and the Day Center will be completely closed on Monday.

We expect to resume regular operations on Thursday.

The Beacon is a non-profit organization that serves the Houston homeless community through daily services, civil legal aid, counseling and mentoring and access to housing. Our mission is to provide essential and next-step services to restore hope and help end homelessness in Houston.

The Beacon is more than a meal. It's a way out of homelessness. Our organization meets the daily needs of hundreds of homeless men and women while also empowering them with housing case management, appropriate program referrals, and civil legal aid.
