Update on Operations

As of Thursday, September 24th: 

  • Services within the John S. Dunn Outreach Center (including the Day Center) are as follows:

    • Inside meals, showers and laundry services along with pastoral care will be available for a capacity of up to 90 people per day.

    • These essential services will be available Thursday through Monday each week.

  • Housing assessments and status checks are available Mondays through Thursdays. Intake begins at 7 a.m. and services are available on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Clients with mailbox privileges can pick up their mail on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

  • Legal services are currently paused.

  • We will continue to work on phasing in services while monitoring our progress and the prevalence of the Coronavirus in the community.

All individuals entering the facility will be screened and required to maintain strict CDC protocols by wearing personal protective equipment and maintaining social distance. 


The Beacon is a non-profit organization that serves the Houston homeless community through daily services, civil legal aid, counseling and mentoring and access to housing. Our mission is to provide essential and next-step services to restore hope and help end homelessness in Houston.

The Beacon is more than a meal. It's a way out of homelessness. Our organization meets the daily needs of hundreds of homeless men and women while also empowering them with housing case management, appropriate program referrals, and civil legal aid.
