Update on Operations
Things are changing day by day with the exception of our meal service, so please check back regularly:
Services within the John S. Dunn Outreach Center (including the Day Center) will be temporarily modified until further notice.
Take-away meals (one hot meal and one sack lunch for each individual) are distributed seven days a week. These sacks include a drink and hand wipes.
Housing assessments and status checks are available Mondays through Fridays. Clients can sign up between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for these services.
Individuals are able to access laundry and shower services on a limited basis.
Clients with mailbox privileges can pick up their mail on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
All other Beacon client-facing services continue to operate remotely, including our Beacon Law and Brigid’s Hope programs.
The City of Houston and the Downtown Management District have installed a handwashing station in front of our facility at 1212 Prairie Street.
We continue to screen any person coming into the facility including volunteers and staff each day.
The Beacon is a non-profit organization that serves the Houston homeless community through daily services, civil legal aid, counseling and mentoring and access to housing. Our mission is to provide essential and next-step services to restore hope and help end homelessness in Houston.
The Beacon is more than a meal. It's a way out of homelessness. Our organization meets the daily needs of hundreds of homeless men and women while also empowering them with housing case management, appropriate program referrals, and civil legal aid.
