How to Donate 

Step 1: Review the acceptable donations list below 

Because of limited staff and space, we do not have the ability to sort through, store, and clean large quantities of clothing and other items. Please ensure your items are gently used as we strive to provide quality items to the clients we serve.

Step 2: Schedule a delivery appointment 

All in-kind donations must have an appointment and must be during Day Center hours: Thursday through Monday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. To schedule your donation delivery, please contact:

Step 3: Drop off your items at The Beacon 

When you drop off your items at The Beacon, be sure to collect a donation receipt. At the end of the year, if you itemize on your taxes, you can claim a tax deduction. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires that you value your donation. 

New and clean, gently used donations from individuals and businesses in our community replenish resources for our clients. Please review the list of acceptable and unacceptable items:

Acceptable Donations

Personal Items (Unused)

  • Toothbrushes

  • Deodorant

  • Bar soap

  • Toothpaste (travel-sized)

  • Disposable razors

  • Shaving cream

  • Shampoo/conditioner (travel-sized)

  • Combs

  • Feminine hygiene items

  • Lotion

  • Underwear

  • Socks

  • Reading glasses (most needed strengths between 2.00 - 3.00)

  • Wallets (for clients to hold important ID documents)

  • Pocket folders and letter-sized envelopes (for clients to hold documents)

  • Gallon-size freezer bags (to keep documents dry)

Other Personal Items (Gently Used)

  • Medical scrubs

  • Blankets


  • Hardback and paperback books

  • Bibles

  • Paper, notebooks, pens

Unacceptable Donations

  • Soiled, wet, torn, stained or damaged items

  • Children's clothing

  • Infant products

  • Broken, stained, soiled or damaged furniture

  • Mattresses

  • Used toys/games

The Beacon does not accept these items and others because they cannot be used by our clients. We will be forced to dispose of them for safety/storage reasons. 

The list of acceptable items is not all inclusive. Items not listed may be acceptable for donation under pre-approved terms at a pre-arranged donation time.

Food donations are acceptable under separate guidelines and must be approved and received by the Chief Operating Officer or Kitchen Coordinator at the time of the donation.
