Donating Items to The Beacon

How to donate

We are grateful for in-kind donations that help us meet the needs of the individuals we serve.

As the inventory of items fluctuates, we encourage you to contact us at info@beaconhomeless.org to understand our current needs and also schedule a time for delivery.

Step 1: Review the acceptable donations list below

Please ensure your items are gently used as we strive to provide quality items to the clients we serve.

Because of limited staff and space, we do not have the ability to sort through, store, and clean large quantities of clothing and other items.

Step 2: Schedule a delivery appointment

Please send an email to info@beaconhomeless.org

to schedule a day

and time to

deliver the items.

All in-kind donations must be delivered during

Day Center hours:

Thursday through Monday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Step 3: Drop off your items at The Beacon

When you deliver your items at The Beacon, be sure to collect a donation receipt.

At the end of the year, if you itemize on your taxes, you can claim a tax deduction. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires that you value your donation.

Acceptable Donations

The list of acceptable items is not all inclusive. Items not listed may be acceptable for donation under pre-approved terms at a pre-arranged donation time. Food donations are acceptable under separate guidelines and must be approved and received by the Chief Operating Officer or Kitchen Coordinator at the time of the donation.

Deodorant
Bar soap
Toothpaste (travel-sized)
Disposable razors
Shaving cream
Shampoo/conditioner (travel-sized)
Combs
Feminine hygiene items
Lotion
Underwear
Socks
Reading glasses (most needed strengths between 2.00 - 3.00)
Wallets (for clients to hold important ID documents)
Pocket folders and letter-sized envelopes (for clients to hold documents)
Gallon-size freezer bags (to keep documents dry)

Other Personal Items (Gently Used)

Medical scrubs
Bath Towels
Blankets

Media

Hardback and paperback books
Paper, notebooks, pens

Unacceptable Donations

Soiled, wet, torn, stained or damaged items
Children's clothing
Infant products
Broken, stained, soiled or damaged furniture
Mattresses
Used toys/games

The Beacon does not accept these items and others because they cannot be used by our clients.

We will be forced to dispose of them for safety/storage reasons.
